An Identification Method of Seek-induced Vibration Modes in Hard Disk Drives
نویسندگان
چکیده
A method to identify the transfer function of HDD head/actuator system modes that have gains that are smaller than the rigid-body mode is presented. Prony’s method is used to identify the frequency and damping of the modes, and the measured actuator current and PES in the time-domain are used to identify the gain of the transfer function of the modes. Overall accuracy is verified by comparing the measured PES and the estimated PES by the obtained transfer function. Seek simulations are performed that demonstrate that modes which cannot be identified by frequency domain analysis have a significant influence on the seeksettling characteristics. It is also shown that although a smooth actuator current helps to reduce the high frequency vibrations at settling, it degrades the effect of vibrations due to the coil and other low frequency modes, such as the dynamics of the flexible printed circuit attached to the actuator. Design and Analysis of Computer Disk Drive Suspension Vibration Compensation Control
Based on the existing dual-stage control scheme for hard disk drives, this paper focuses on the design and analysis of adaptive feedforward control of airflow induced suspension vibration, which utilizes the vibration signal obtained from instrumented suspension. In this scheme, a strain signal on the surface of the instrumented suspension is obtained which is indicative of the suspension’s vib...
متن کاملReal-time signal processing for flying height measurement and control in hard drives subject to shock and vibration
Three readback signal detection methods are inyestgated for real-time flying height or head disk spacing variation measurement under vibration conditions. This is carried out by theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental study. The first method (amplitude detection) provides a simple way to study the head disk spacing change. The second method ( PW50 parameter estimation) can ...

متن کاملSuppression of cross-track vibrations using a self-sensing micro-actuator in hard disk drives
In this study we utilize the self-sensing capabilities of piezoelectric micro-actuators in hard disk drives (HDD) to actively suppress in-plane resonance modes of the suspension in an HDD. The self-sensing circuit is based on a tunable capacitance bridge that decouples the control signal from the sensing signal in the micro-actuator. A hybrid modeling technique based on a realization algorithm ...

Hard disk drives function perfectly satisfactorily when used in a stable environment, but in certain applications they are subjected to shock and vibration. During the work reported in this thesis it has been found that when typical hard disk drives are subjected lo vibration, data transfer failure is found to be significant at frequencies between 440Hz and 700Hz, at an extreme, failing at only...
